Sewing a classic pillowcase with a flap with your own hands is quite simple. Follow the steps of the master class - and in half an hour the pillowcase will be ready.

This is a traditional, the most common and quite simple to manufacture option, perfect for bedding: a pillowcase with a one-piece flap. The pillowcase is the same on both sides, there are no extra seams, the edges of the fabric are neatly put into the side seams, and the valve holds the pillow securely inside. It’s easy to put on and take off such a pillowcase, it’s convenient to use, and sewing is quick.

How to easily sew a pillowcase with a zipper

You will need:

- fabric for pillowcases (to find out the approximate amount of fabric needed, wrap your pillow with it - the fabric should be enough for 1.3-1.5 turns, that is, the turnover plus overlap);

- tape measure;

- pencil or felt-tip pen for fabric;

- scissors;

- sewing machine and thread;

- pins.

How to sew a pillowcase with "ears"

Work sequence:

1. Measure your pillow with a centimeter tape in length and width. Add 5 cm to each measure for a loose fit. If the pillow is not very lush or you want the pillowcase to fit it very tightly, add not 5 cm, but a little less, for example 3-4 cm. However, keep in mind that after washing, a fabric, such as cotton, may slightly sit down and don’t add too much.

2. Lay the fabric on the work surface and mark the future pillowcase directly on the fabric:

a - allowance for processing the input pillowcase = 3-4 cm

b - valve width = 20−25 cm

c - double pillowcase length = (pillow length + 5 cm) x 2

g - pillowcase width = pillow width + 5 cm + 4 cm for stocks (2 cm on each side)

Fractional thread can go both along and across the pillowcase.

3. Cut out the resulting rectangle.

4. Treat both short sides of the rectangle by tucking the edge of the fabric inward twice and stitching it to the edge (hemline).

5. Lay out the pillowcase part on the work surface. Fold the part in two inside out and turn the future valve inside. Check the length of the resulting pillowcase with a centimeter: it should be the length of the pillow + 5 cm for a loose fit. Turn all unnecessary into the valve.

6. Align the pillowcase around the edges. Chip pins in several places on both sides.

7. Sew side seams 0.5 cm from the edge. Make sure that the valve between the sides of the pillowcase fits into the seams.

8. Turn the pillowcase inside out. Turn the valve out as well. Carefully turn out all the corners and straighten the seams.

9. Now the same side seams must be sewn from the inside. Retreat from the edge of 0.8-1 cm.

10. It remains to twist the pillowcase - done!
